Education Credential Assessment

Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is the process of assessing the educational credentials of a
person who has obtained their education outside of Canada. The purpose of an ECA is to determine the
Canadian equivalency of a foreign degree, diploma, or certificate.

For the purposes of immigration to Canada, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses the results of an ECA to help determine an individual’s eligibility for certain immigration programs, such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program.

IRCC has authorized a number of organizations to evaluate foreign educational credentials. These
organizations are called “designated organizations” and include entities such as

1. World Education Services (WES).

2. International Credential Assessment Service (ICAS).

3. International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

4. International Credential Evaluation service (ICES).

5. Comparative Education Service (CES).

There is a fee involved when obtaining an ECA. The fee varies depending on the designated organization
and the type of assessment being requested. It is best to check with the specific designated organization
for their current fee schedule.
